I met this NGO on my trip do South Africa. I chose, on my travel program, to have an activity that would bring me closer to local communities. I wanted to meet people, know their main needs, if there are any associations that supported them, and help them surviving, and how they work, and what they do. In this process I found Hlokomela, and with Fia (the amazing guide and passionate about the project, that show us everything in the association) I was able to know the details and contacted directly with the people and the different projects they develop, wich are AMAZING!
I start to visit the women’s clinic, and since the doctors, nurses, administrative lays, all of them were truly passionate about the project. I had the opportunity to know the inside of clinic, talk with doctors and nurses, and help carrying kits (picture on left) to offer to women who are diagnosed with cancer, and therefore have to be sent to Johannesburg, the nearest place where treatment is avaible.
After the women clinic, I went to the Richmond Creche. I took some toys for the babys and for the kids of this Creche from my country. I talked with Fia some months after the visit and she told me that they don’t have toys, and my heart melt down. I took a lot of toys to them, and they love it, but what they really wanted to do was to hug me, give me kisses, film with my camera and touch my hair… It was a very difficult moment, because I’m a very sensitive person. The lady on the pic above it’s Maria, one of the owners of Rafiki Bush Lodge, the place that i choosed to stay during my trip. She is very sensitive also, and she took diapers to the babys, because some mummys don’t have diapers to put on the babys, some babys only have 1 diaper, per day.
When I was in touch with Fia, after my visit, she said that they’re studying different flags and countrys, so she asked me if I could take a flag from my country, so I can left there. So, of course that I took my flag with me, and some kids tooked a picture on one of the rooms of the Creche.
This was a very special moment to me, because this kids and familys really need help to survive.
After left Creche, i went to the Herbs Garden, to the Social Shop, and the market. All of this places give job to local comunnitys.
They really need your help to help and save entire family’s, What you can to do help them?
With the covid-19 problem , and a very fragile country, without conditions to protect all, Hlokomela it’s asking for some donations. The situation for some families in lockdown on the community is getting serious, food is running out. A lot of people fall under the “no work, no pay” concept.
If you don’t live in South Africa you can donate money HERE, if you donate 1,2,5,10,20,50,100,etc. euros, rands, or dollars, my sincerely “thank you”, from the bottom of my heart. For each approximately 20€ a food parcel can be made and given out to a family in need. The priority of help it’s family’s with children.
With the money that they already earn in GivenGain (link do donate here again), and Hlokomela Spaza, they’re putting together food parcels for families in need.
If you live in Portugal, I know the things are not easy here, a lot of people loosed the work because they are not able to work, but if you cannot donate money, please share this post, that will gonna be a huge help. If you can donate money but just 1€ it’s ok! If 20 people think the same, you’ll have one pack for one family!
If you leave in South Africa you can deliver your contribution on a Hlokomela site, but will gonna be always easier, if you donate, sou they can provide the food from the Hlokomeka market.
They also don’t have masks, gloves and alcohol-gel to be protect, so your help will gonna be so important! On the pictures bellow, workers creating food packs to deliver to family’s who need.
If you would like and can donate put on description that your donation was because of this post, I would love to know that a simple post, can change lives.
On this post I join all the information about Hlokomela, if you would like to know more, please read the content bellow.

Where?
They do most of our work in the greater Hoedspruit and Phalaborwa areas, a major centre of the Maruleng Municipality, which is situated in the Mopani District of the Limpopo Province. They also work in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga where the focus is on sex worker education and health awareness. Tourism, government services, farming and forestry are key to the economic activities in these areas. The farming sector supports a significant section of the local population of seasonal and migrant workers.
